No installable kernel was found in the defined APT sources.

Tech Notes

Ubuntu server 9.10 on a MicroClient Jr with a USB CD-R via a USB to IDE adapter. Perhaps the CD-R timesout or perhaps the installer isn't seeing the kernel package. However I get this error. No installable kernel was found in the defined APT sources. If I continue I get errors trying to install GRUB and LILO. This worked before installing GRUB.

chroot /target

apt-get install kernel-package

apt-get install linux-image-2.6.24-26-generic

  1. Switch to a console (ALT+F3)
  2. Enter to activate
  3. Switch back to the installer and continue (ALT+F1)

Running aptitude by itself didn't seem to show the kernel package as an installation possibility. After various tries the above worked. http://jordanteam.com/blog/ http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/
